Using AI Artwork as a Musician: Breaking Down the Art from my New EP

The new EP, Cracks in the Visage, took a new approach to songwriting, and I wanted that reflected in the artworks. While this EP was thematically related to Radiant visage, it represents a stepping stone into the world of ai imaging that I intend to explore in more detail in my 2023 project. The image was created by combining AI generated art, with an image I had created from splicing together several public domain images.

Here’s a run through of the layers

The AI image:

I had a specific image (the next layer) that I wanted to use in conjunction with ai art, so my prompt was very specific to work within those confines. Pink and purple sunset with birds was the original prompt and I fine tuned it until it created this image. I did some slight color tweaks to allow the photo to blend a little better with the next layer. This image acted as the base for the additional layers.

Layer 2:

The next layer was a combination of several images I blended together using the iOS app Bazaart. This photo style creates a very warped semblance to reality and was the main theme of Radiant Visage's art. This was actually one of my first image choices for the album, so it felt fitting to finally utilize it for this follow up EP, combining the aesthetic of RV with a glimpse of what's to come in 2023.

The Final Image:

The top layer shifts the whole tone of the image, adding ghostly reflections and welcome artifacts. It alters the very clean ai image into an older and more warped look. Check back next week for more on the production approach to the music on the EP. Similar to the art theme, it is both a continuation of RV's ideas, while also venturing into new territory to be explored more next year.
