Bleass Voices Plugin Walkthough: Making a Song Using Just My Voice, A Plugin and SP404 MK2

Updated: Jul 8, 2023

While doing some vocal harmonies and pitch correction with the new Voices plugin by Bleass, I had a crazy idea: Can I, a completely untrained vocalist, make a track using just my voice for everything? I'm not just talking about single note harmonies, but chords and even drums. Let's test that out today. First we'll record some "chords", a melodic note and a bass note using Voices. Then throw these sounds into a sampler (SP404 MK2) and create a song. I also quite embarrassingly beat box and use the plugin/some SP magic to turn the sounds into massive drums.

Want to try these sounds for yourself and put them in your music? They're available royalty free on the new "Vicarious Voices" Sample Pack:

How I Made These Sounds:

First, I used Bleass Voices, a vocal harmonizer plugin, to pitch correct and create harmonies around my vocal. A quick note: Bleass sent this plugin over to check out but have no say in the video/post's content. All opinions and content are the author's.

Using a Vocal Harmonizer plugin (Bleass Voices) can turn a single voice into a choir

This allows a single voice to sound like a chord, bass or melody whether you're a trained singer or completely new to singing (thanks to the pitch correction).

Next, I took all of these samples and put them into a sampler. I used the SP404 but any sampler (every DAW includes one) will work. From there I used chromatic mode to play these sounds across different pitches, creating melodies and a chord progression. If you're using a DAW's sampler, you would transpose the sample across the sampler's keyboard to create different pitches.

From there it's time to make a beat and see what these sounds can do!

Did It Work? This may have been the most surreal, but also most rewarding experiment yet. There's something so familiar about the human voice, but when used in this foreign way, the end result is both recognizable and wholly new at the same time. Do you incorporate the voice in your music? Let me know in the comments.
