NAMM 2025 was packed with inspiring gear, and I walked away with some incredible sounds that I couldn’t wait to flip into a beat. In my latest livestream, I took samples from my favorite NAMM finds and turned them into a full track using nothing but the SP404 MK2. Here's How:
The Samples – Puzzle Pieces for a Beat
When working with samples, I like to think of them as puzzle pieces, each one fitting into a specific range of octaves or tones to be put together, creating a balanced track.
Here’s what I used from my NAMM samples:
🎵 Stylophone DS-2 – A drone synth that I warped into a nasty bass
🎵 ROLI Piano + Airwave – Played low-end piano arpeggios for depth
🎵 Guzheng Sample – Shoutout to Yukes, another SP404 YouTuber, who demoed this traditional Chinese instrument and let me sample it!
🎵 Roland T8 – I chopped a drum loop into one-shots for my beat
I intentionally kept the pianos low so they wouldn’t clash with the Guzheng, which sat in a slightly higher octave. Then, I added more elements at even higher ranges to fill out the frequency spectrum.

SP404 MK2 Tricks to Flip a Loop into a Full Track
To take the beat beyond a simple loop, I used:
🔹 TR-Rec Mode – Created pattern variations to build out a full track 🔹 Bus 3 & 4 FX – Used these to “master” the track and glue everything together
