Isolating Instruments from Songs with RipX DeepCreate: It's a Game Changer for Sampling Workflows

Updated: May 5, 2023

In today’s video we’re checking out a powerful new app from Hit’n’Mix, RipX DeepCreate, that can split full tracks into individual instruments/stems.

The isolated audio layers are also inserted into a midi timeline, enabling some insane sound mangling and manipulation. Today we’ll separate the stems from my track Farther, taking the isolated vocals, adding some fx like harmony, reverb and pitch shifting (within DeepCreate). From there we’ll

chop the new sample on the SP404 and build a beat with some 808s and bass/piano from the Korg Volca FM

Isolating Instruments in RipX:

With a track inserted into RipX, it automatically splits the audio into several layers. In Farther's case, it made a vocal layer, guitar (which included synths), bass and several layers of drums. One thing I found particularly interesting is it's ability to split synth chords into the separate notes that make up the chord. From there, you can move the notes up and down semitones and adjust it's placement in time. For this track I just smoothed out the pitch a little, added a light octave harmony and some reverb. With all that done I moved the sample into the SP to chop and make a beat.

SP404 Sample Workflow:

Armed with the awesome new sample I made in RipX, I moved it into the SP and began repitching (down 5 semitones) and chopping it into 4 parts. I now had a new melodic chord progression that could serve as the basis of a track. I already had some one shots from the Roland TR-08 sampled into the SP so I added some drums in the TR REC mode. The song was coming together, but it still needed some low end and a melody. I grabbed my Volca FM and recorded in some bass and a piano line. All that was left to do was some song structuring.

Final Thoughts:

This new sample workflow is a game changer! Having the ability to isolate sounds and mangle them with post processing opens up a whole new method of song creation. While I moved the sample into the SP, it's just as easy, if not even easier, to put them into a DAW and start creating. One of the key ways I see incorporating this workflow is as a means of working around writer's block and boredom. If you need to break out of your usual song writing methods, try isolating sounds and building a track from there.

Many thanks to Hit'n'Mix for sending DeepCreate over to checkout. They offer a 21 day free demo here:
