NAMM 2025 Day 1: The Best Gear I Tried (ROLI, Stylophone & Yamaha SEQTRAK)

There’s so much to explore at NAMM 2025, and Day 1 didn’t disappoint! Here are some of my favorite finds so far:

Stylophone DS-2

Stylophone DS-2

Stylophone has a new drone synth called the DS-2, and it’s incredible. It’s one of those synths where you can easily lose yourself in sound design. The powerful and tweakable features let you create some wild and unique sounds.

Yamaha SEQTRAK & Montage

I stopped by Yamaha to check out the SEQTRAK Groovebox. As a massive fan of samplers I've had my eye on this for quite some time. This little groovebox stood out with its wireless MIDI capabilities, which adds a ton of flexibility especially when using the SEQTRAK app to navigate the device. It seemed pretty intuitive workflow wise, but without the app could take some time to learn all of the buttons on the device itself.

ROLI Piano & Airwave

ROLI’s booth was a standout, especially with their new Airwave. This device lets you control different settings, like filter cutoff and modulation, by simply moving your hands. It’s synced to your gestures and makes for an incredibly expressive way to create music.

ROLI Piano

The ROLI Piano also impressed with its expressive touch and lit keyboard. It had a solid feel and combined with the Airwave felt like a new form of translating performance emotion into the DAW.

Let me know if there’s anything else you’d like me to check out, I’m heading back tomorrow to see even more gear. Stay tuned for my full thoughts on NAMM in the next few days. And don’t forget to join next week’s livestream, where I’ll flip the samples I collected at NAMM on the SP404 MK2!
