Portable SP404MKII Using a USB-C Cable // No Batteries Portable Sampler with a Power Bank

Updated: Jun 16, 2023

Samplers are a powerful, flexible and portable music making option for studio and on the go. That portability typically comes with short battery life, or in the case of the SP404, wallet (and environment) unfriendly AA batteries. With just a USB-C to C cable and either a power bank or Laptop you never have to rely on batteries again. Let's look at both of these options, how to set them up and their pros/cons.

Power bank:

With a power bank that has a USB-C Port of 1.5 amps power and a 1.5 amps usb-c cable (I have links below if you need them), you can easily connect your sampler through the usb c port into a usb c port on the power bank. From there, just turn on the sampler and you're good to go!

pro: no batteries portable sampler with a power bank

con: you have to also connect the SP to speakers, headphones and/or a recording device.

Here's the power bank and usb c I use as you can see in the video:

Power and Send Audio With One Cable Via Computer

This is something I only recently discovered thanks to my new MacBook Pro, but this is a MASSIVE game changer. If you have a laptop with a usb-c port it will work. Connect the sampler via usb-c into the computers usb-c port. Now you can power your sampler and send audio in or out with a single cable!

Pros: audio and power from a single cable connection

Cons: have to bring a laptop or connect to a computer wherever you're intending to work
